Do you belongs to Punjab or Sikhism?

If yes, then you must know these places for sure. But if not, here we comes with the list of 5 Famous Gurdwaras that everyone know.

If you are a Punjabi, there is no way that you have not heard of or visited at least one Gurudwara in your life. But even if you are not Punjabi, a visit to one of these sacred places of worship is definitely worth seeing!
In this post, we have highlighted five beautiful Gurdwaras from Punjab that will leave you spellbound.

1. Gurdwara Hari Mandir Sahib, Amritsar

Hari Mandir Sahib, also known as Golden Temple, is the most famous Gurudwara, located in Amritsar, Punjab. The foundation of this prominent holy place was laid in 1588 by Sufi Saint Mir Mohammed Muayyinul, popularly known as Hazrat Mian Mir. This place is open to all religions.

Golden Temple has four gates which symbolize that Sikhs accept individuals from all walks of life. It was the first pilgrimage site built for the Sikhs so that they can worship together. There is one ‘langar hall’ in this Gurudwara which is open 24/7 to serve delicious food called ‘parshada’ to all the devotees.

2. Gurdwara Baba Atal Sahib, Punjab

Gurdwara Baba Atal Sahib is a nine-story octagonal tower situated in Amritsar, Punjab. It is the tallest building in this city. Basically, this Gurudwara was constructed between 1778 and 1784 to commemorate the death of Guru Hargobind Singh (the sixth Guru of the Sikhs) son, Baba Atal.

The present nine-story building represents the nine years of Baba Atal’s life. There are four entryways on the ground floor, one on each of the cardinal sides. However, the main gate faces east. Within the interior octagonal elevation, additionally having four entryways, is kept the Guru Granth Sahib, enshrined in a beautifully wrought brass canopy, surmounted by an exquisite chhatri. The entryways are made of silver and metal with exquisitely embellished designs. Every Punjabi must visit this Gurudwara to know its heart-touching history and to explore its impressive artistic building.

3. Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, Punjab

The next Gurdwara on the list is Takht Sri Damdama Sahib. It is situated in Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda, Punjab. This place became famous because Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji prepared the final edition of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, which is now being honored by the Sikhs as Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the spiritual guide to all Sikhs.

4. Tarn Taran Sahib, Punjab

This Gurudwara was established by Guru Arjan Dev Ji (The Fifth Guru Of Sikhism) in Tarn Taran Sahib, Punjab, India. This Gurudwara has the largest Sarovar (water pond). It is famous for the monthly gathering of devotees on the day of Amavas (a no-moon night).

5. Gurudwara Goindwal Sahib

The Goindwal Sahib Gurudwara is Punjab’s pride, and it is one of the famous tourist attractions. When it comes to Sikh religious pilgrimage sites, Goindwal is the city that reaches the top in Punjab. This town boasts some of the essential Gurudwaras, and among them, the Goindwal Sahib is one of the greatest.

The third Guru of Sikhism constructed a Baoli with eighty-four steps. It is believed that whoever takes a bath in the well and recites Japji Sahib attains Moksha.”

The Goindwal Baoli Sahib is believed to be the first center of Sikhism, and it’s a popular pilgrimage destination for both Hindus and Sikhs. The entrance of this place has many murals describing significant scenes of Sikh history, which make up one big painting showing how religions have coexisted peacefully over time here at this location – refreshing!

This Gurudwara also has a massive langar hall or community kitchen that provides food every day so visitors can enjoy their meal with others from different backgrounds.

The Bottom Line:

As we all know, when it comes to legends, patriotism, religious and sacred places, Punjab is at the top. These are just 5 Gurudwaras that we have covered in this blog post. But, there are many more like Khadur Sahib, Dera Baba Nanak, Baba Bakala, Gurudwara Ber Sahib, etc.
